Common questions about KUNOS and interior wood

What can KUNOS be used on?

KUNOS is designed for interior solid wood surfaces, including hardwood floors, stairs, furniture and other interior woodwork. It can also be used on Multiplex and on OSB for walls and ceilings.

Can KUNOS be used on hardwood floors and stairs?

Yes. KUNOS is well suited to frequently used interior wood surfaces such as hardwood floors and wooden stairs. It penetrates the wood and builds a durable, satin and water-resistant finish.

Can I use KUNOS on furniture and interior woodwork?

Yes. KUNOS can be used on solid wood furniture and interior woodwork where you want a natural oil finish that enhances the grain while protecting the surface.

Wood oil or polyurethane: what is the difference?

KUNOS uses an oil-based finishing system that penetrates the wood and can be refreshed locally. Conventional polyurethane finishes typically form a coating on the surface, which can make local repairs more difficult when the finish becomes worn or damaged.

How many coats of KUNOS do I need?

For floors, LIVOS recommends at least three coats. The number of coats required on other interior wood surfaces depends on the wood, its absorbency and the level of protection needed.

Do I need to sand between coats?

On floors, intermediate sanding is normally not required when the excess oil from the first application is carefully removed. Proper preparation of the wood before the first coat remains important.

Can worn or damaged areas be repaired without refinishing everything?

Yes. Individual worn areas can be treated and re-oiled locally instead of automatically refinishing the entire floor, staircase or wood surface.

Does KUNOS change the appearance of the wood?

Clear KUNOS enhances the natural colour and grain of the wood. White can be used when a lighter appearance is desired on suitable wood species.

How much KUNOS do I need?

Coverage depends on the wood species, absorbency and surface preparation. On floors, coverage increases significantly with each coat because the wood absorbs less oil once it becomes saturated.

How do I maintain wood finished with KUNOS?

Keep the surface clean with products intended for oiled wood and refresh worn areas when needed. Floors, stairs, furniture and other frequently used interior wood surfaces can be maintained without automatically refinishing the entire area.
