How to apply interior wood oil

A step-by-step guide to oiling floors, furniture and countertops with LIVOS natural oils. Sanding, application, drying time and maintenance.

Before you start

Apply at least two coats of oil. A third coat is optional, but it gives the full scratch and stain resistance and a professional finish.

Drying time between coats can take up to 24 hours. Give each coat enough time to cure before applying the next.

  1. First coat

    Dry 12 to 24 hours

    1. Sand the surface. Furniture: 80, 100, 120, 150, then 180 grit. Floors: 80, 100, 120, then 150 grit.
    2. Test the colour on a small, freshly sanded area.
    3. Mix the product well.
    4. Apply the oil with a cloth, the way you would apply a stain, until the wood is saturated.
    5. Wait 10 to 15 minutes, then wipe off all excess with a clean, dry cloth, or polish with a non-abrasive pad. Change cloths as needed.
    6. Let dry 12 to 24 hours.

    Colour can vary with the wood species, sanding depth and application method.

  2. Second coat

    Dry 12 to 24 hours

    1. Apply the oil, then wipe or polish the surface with a dry cloth.
    2. On furniture, buff any excess with a clean, dry cloth.
    3. Let dry 12 to 24 hours.

    Dry 24 hours

    1. Repeat the second coat with less oil, about 4 mL per m², or a few light drops.
    2. Let dry 24 hours.

Keep it beautiful

A few simple habits keep oiled wood looking new for years.

Regular cleaning

Clean with a pH-neutral cleaner such as TRENA. Avoid harsh products that strip the oil.

Periodic care

Use GLANOS on furniture and floors every fourth or fifth cleaning to nourish the finish.

Refresh worn areas

When a floor looks dull or worn, apply a thin coat of KUNOS with a cloth and wipe dry right away. No sanding needed.

How many coats of wood oil do I need?
