Good to know: 002 Clear has no UV protection, and 004 Natural has limited UV protection. For decks in full sun, choose a pigmented colour.

Deck oil, deck stain or varnish: which is best for a deck or patio?
Varnish and film-forming stains sit on top of the wood like a plastic layer. Outdoors, sun and freeze-thaw cycles crack that layer, and it starts to peel. A penetrating deck oil like ALIS soaks into the wood instead. It stains and seals from the inside, so there is no film to fail.
Why does my deck stain keep peeling?
Most deck stains and sealers form a surface film. When moisture gets under it, the film lifts and flakes, and you have to strip or sand before recoating. ALIS never forms a film, so it can't peel.
Can I use ALIS on a patio, balcony or outdoor stairs?
Yes. ALIS is made for exterior wood that people walk on: decks, patios, balconies, terraces, docks and outdoor stairs.
How much deck oil do I need?
ALIS covers 50 to 100 sq ft per litre for two coats. A 200 sq ft deck needs about 2 to 4 litres, depending on how porous the wood is.
How do I maintain a deck finished with ALIS?
Clean the deck and apply a fresh coat when the colour starts to fade. No stripping, no sanding.

Sand to 120 grit and vacuum. Roll on a thin first coat, wipe off anything not absorbed after 30 minutes, leave 12 hours, then apply the second coat.
